So I felt like doing an art project

I got the sweet background from Mulheres Barbadas.

He's getting popular.

Check out his website to see how he makes his stuff.

This is where my head is at right now...

It is 4 AM and I've just finished writing my 15 page paper that is due tomorrow. I feel like everyone is off to sleep yet I remain in my own world.... just wondering off... everything is in slow motion. sleep

Alex, Alex, and Alex... The A'z

You may know them from their hit, Rocketship. The A'z, a young group out of Oakland do an alternative style of hip-hop. They mix rock n roll heavy drums with futuristic electronic sounds and very energetic vocals. I could picture the setting of a rock concert for this song. A creative blend of styles.
You can see the futuristic production on this next track. The long background synths have an outer space feeling to them. The fast hitting drums are easy to dance to. The A'z definitely have a quick energetic pace to their music.

Nooka watches: times have changed

Nooka watches, designed by Matthew Waldman, report the time in an unorthodox fashion. There are several different models... some involve bars that wrap around the wrist which elongate as time passes. The model above has dots that fill up. Nooka is a design company, and expects to launch different types of products besides watches in the future. Check out Nooka.com for more.

Kanye West: Flashing Lights Part 2 Video

I just saw the Flashing Lights part 2 video. Kanye is one of the most creative people out there, if you don't already know. This video is almost like a super fast slideshow... almost like flashing lights. Enjoy...
Oh... how beautiful is that girl??

Jay Ant sings

Jay Ant, producer from the Diligentz, lists "Experimental" as one of the words to describe his style. I can see why. A la Young L "Honey with me," Jay Ant has decided to sing some tracks. He explicitly explains what he plans to do to any willing boppers in this song:

On this next one, he voices his concern that his flyness and excellent fashion sense might come in the way of his relationships.

Also check out the new Prank (from the Diligentz) mixtape called C.R.E.A.M. available for download on their Myspace page.

Electronica

Kid Cudi is an up and coming rapper from Cleveland, Ohio. Crookers are awesome DJs from Italy who describe their style as House/Crunk/ Ghettotech. You better expect something ultra sexual to result when these two combine. Listen to the Crookers remix of Kid Cudi's hit, Day and Night.

This next song is a popular hit combining the songs of David Guetta and The Egg. This has one of the better beats of any dance song I've heard in a while.

Sam Sparro is a Los Angeles based Elektro/Soul/Funk artist. Right now he's on tour in Europe. Here is the single from his album which drops next month.

Let's stay on the electronic tip but tone it down a little bit on this song. This is Chromeo doing a smooth song for the ladies. I can always appreciate his retro funk electro style.

By the way, I've been thinking about pimping this website out as soon as I get done with classes. I have some ideas but I am definitely open to suggestion. Hit me up.

The Diligentz: Punk Rock/ Tyga on the rise

The Diligentz are making fresh music. With cool production from Jay Ant and a care-free rhyme style, their music is fun and refreshing. The Diligents are advocates of the punk rock movement occurring in hip-hop culture right now. I posted the video of their big hit with The Pack which kinda sums it up on this older post. This next video is an example of indie influence on their music:
This has been my favorite song of the last couple days, and this video just makes it better. Here's the song:
Also, here's the video for the original song they did the spin off from... It's called Young Folks by Peter Bjorn and John:

Another song to display their creative style is this one from Damey. Using a video game beat, he combines romance with video games. I like it.
Also check out these two songs. The first one refers to meeting in the ladies room.
...and the next one is the newest single off their myspace page

A big upcoming artist from Compton named Tyga is making some noise lately. He's been signed to Young Money by Lil Wayne... not a bad endorsement. He also kicks it with The Pack. You can see him in the background of the In My Car video as the guy with the big smile on doing the steering wheel dance. Here's a clip from the video shoot...you can tell who he is thanks to the huge TYGA chain he shows. Check out Tyga's video for Coconut Juice featuring Travis from Gym Class Heroes:

And finally, check out the super fly song from his new mixtape featuring Lil Weezy himself. The beat sounds like what a medieval king would use to roll out his red carpet. I could see Wayne doing that in his next music video.

How hot is it right now in the bay?

Ayyyyyyyyyyye, Young Jeezy and Kanye have just put on this new smash. The beginning is typical Jeezy. Normally I can only take about 1 minute of Jeezy but Kanye's on the song and he's using that vocoder voice we all love. Next we'll have Elton John making a vocoder song.

On this next one Young L comes out with another beat where you just ask, how the hell did he create those sounds? It's what you'd get if you combined the Atari Asteroids game with hip-hop. Lil B informs us that he's "street like sesame."

These next two songs are from a Sacramento group called The Trend (pictured below). They have a Go Dav-ish sound to them with a mix of singing, rapping, and futuristic beats. The first song reminds me of the party I was at last night.
This heat wave going on right now made everything so hot, people were sweating like a sauna.
The synths on the next song are on fire.

Mario continues to mature as an artist. This is one of my favorite songs from him for sure. I like the new style a lot of R&B songs have these days. For example, the bass in this song hits hard like a club song. It makes possible a lot freakier dance moves than just the slow dance. You can turf dance to some of the R&B these days. BTW, I recommend going to Youtube and watching turf dance videos the next spare moment you have.

What genre would you classify N.E.R.D.'s new song as? Sure there's rap, but this could definitely be performed at a jazz club. Open your mind up, cuz you probably won't be used to this. These guys are damn creative. It's called Everybody Nose.

The Cataracs! >>> That modern sound

The Cataracs, a young group out of Berkeley, has an innovative sound that is ahead of the game. The Cataracs have a hip-hop background (I first heard them on the Blueberry Afghani song with The Pack) but the super creative producer, Cyrano, delves into an electronic style these days. Check out their latest hit song that is tearing up bay area radio right now:
They have the type of style that can be played in clubs around the world. I've just realized that this kind of creative and innovative music results when artists make what they love instead of trying to please the mainstream first. Check out more new Cataracs music:
Also check out their Chromeo-like video of "Hit me back"

And if you don't know who Chromeo is... you're missing out. I posted his most freaking awesome video back on this post. He's touring the west coast this July so check him out. His video for the song "fancy footwork" just came out. See below:

I don't know how I haven't gotten around to posting about M.I.A more often (last time I did was on this post...great video and song!). This woman is one of the most creative artists I know. Most of her songs have political messages but they still go hard in clubs around the world. I was at the theater watching "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" (which is realllly funny and the brown haired chick in it is realllllly fine) and before the movie they showed a preview for "The Pineapple Express" and they were playing M.I.A.'s new song, "Paper Planes." I went nuts cuz this song is DOPE/super fresh. Check the video:

Screamin Demons: New Pack mixtape preview

Just when I thought The Pack was just gonna go off and do their own thing 24/7, I hear about a new Pack mixtape coming: Screamin Demons...
I could see a crazy music video for this song. Something dark and evil like. Young L created a mystic beat on this one. But turn up the subs cuz this is still BASED music.
This next song is the club banger. In my car-ish style.

Why did I just post a picture of Nelly, you ask. Well because Nelly loves the bay... according to his song called... Bay. Droop-E produced this beat for this Nelly song on his new album Brass Knuckles. He's talking about going dumb on the chorus. Also, his second verse is a complete Too Short impression. Then he does E-40 in the third verse! I can't get mad at anything that brings attention to the bay.

If you haven't heard Young Boss's new smash "Shooting Star," get it now. It's on this old post. But anyways he has this short and sweet new song I found. This guy is creative. He's got a very modern style with this song. He comes out with a strong bass line and smooth raps in the first half of the song, but then the second half of the song breaks off like day to night when a super fly synth theme jumps in, Timbaland style. Play this if you're rolling to the VIP and you've got some money in your pocket cuz this song gets sophisticated.
