Mansard Roof is another single off of Vampire Weekend's album... my favorite so far.

Electric Feel
I was gonna do a super post today, but something came up. Be ready for it tomorrow... But for now, check out this video. I love this song. And the video is so trippy! Please watch while under the influence of something. It will be the most entertaining thing you've done in a while. The song is called Electric Feel by MGMT.

Android by Google

Many people have been waiting for a Google phone, but instead Google has decided to build a Linux-based software platform and operating system to work on other mobile devices. Android is an Open Source platform, meaning that anyone can easily customize it for themselves. Check out the Android developer demo below to see Android in action. These guys are such nerds!

The Dream: UNDERRATED!

Terius Youngdell Nash, or "The Dream," is an Atlanta based singer/songwriter. His popularity as a songwriter rose after writing songs like Rihanna's "Umbrella," and J-Holiday's "Bed." I think his solo album "LoveHate" is loaded with quality singles and deserves a lot of credit. The Dream has an innovative style that is very refreshing to hear. I can't really list any favorites from the album, but here are a couple you need to check out (that haven't already been radio hits). I definitely recommend getting the ENTIRE album. I know the album wasn't released yesterday but maybe that is a testament to the timelessness of the music...

Santogold

Santi White (born 1976) is a singer/producer from Philadelphia. Santogold's self-titled album was released in April of 2008. Her style is very unique, in fact Santogold felt that people were being racist by calling her style hip-hop and r&b just because she is black. Listen.
Also check out the video for her most popular single, L.E.S. Artistes. She's on a horse.

Ice-t: "Soulja boy killed hip-hop"
Ice-T calls out Soulja Boy for killing hip-hop. What is with all the talk that hip-hop is dead? What is hip-hop? Do you need to talk about killing people, driving nice cars, and having sex (like Ice-T did)? Soulja Boy talks mostly about his dance moves. I don't see anything wrong with that. In fact, I'd rather hear about dancing than killing most of the time (I'm not a big Soulja Boy supporter... I don't think I've posted any of his songs here even though I might enjoy some of them). Maybe Ice-T is just mad about the greater mainstreaming of the hip-hop music to a broader audience. He should be happy that now there is such a large variety of hip-hop to choose from. There are still tons of rappers who tell stories in their music. Once again, this is not a defense of Soulja Boy, just an examination of "hip-hop is dead" talk.

BLURPT

I haven't listened to all of Keak da Sneak's new album but this song is a SLUMPER (that is a good thing for those not acquainted with bay area jargon). I didn't know until it came on while I was driving in my car... I heard the bassline and the beat drop. Blurpt slaps when played loud! And he's talking about the police putting their sirens on when he says BLURPT. I'm pretty sure E-40's album should be coming out this year too, so hyphy might have a second chance. Tune in at your local function.

Young L a.k.a. iPhone Pimp?

Young L, who proclaims himself the most underrated producer in the universe on this song, talks about fitting stacks into his jeans and walking with a limp. Judging by how tight his jeans are, it is logical to deduce that trying to fit a large wad of money and an iPhone into one his pockets could be causing the limp...

W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E.
Wale is a musician from Washington DC who has been attracting a lot of attention as of late. This video for his hit song W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E. is full of animation, similar to Kanye's "Good Life" video.
Hoodie
Halloween suggestion: use a hoodie for your costume... you'll be able to reuse it year round. Kanye West is sporting a BAPE hoodie above.
Check out the Hoodie song by the Punk Rock Squad and Team Knoc. This beat reminds me of the Vans beat.

Wow...

Smooth line: "Girl you sacred like the Gaza strip... but if comfortable you might have to strip... don't trip." If this song tickles your fancy, make sure to check out Jynx's song called "Brownie."
Mos Def and Talib Kweli of Blackstar are one of hip-hop's all time best pairs. They lace playful flows on one of the smoothest beats for this song. Every verse in this song is one of my all time favorites. These guys can rhyme the same word... or not rhyme at all and make it sound good.
Su is a producer/rapper from the bay area group, Go Gettaz.

Nas: Hero
Nas just did an interesting photo shoot for Complex. I don't think he normally dresses this style. He really let the Complex team play "dress up" with him.

Here is Nas's new song produced by Polow da Don. Polow is getting EVERYWHERE. His recent hits include Usher's "Love in this Club" and Chris Brown's "Forever." I would have liked this song better without a girl singing on it, but hey, it's still Nas... and Polow.
The Bake Sale EP

The highly anticipated EP from the Cool Kids is now out for download. This Midwest duo mix retro with modern, old school with new school, to make this album. My favorite songs so far are Black Mags, Gold and A Pager, Mikey Rocks, and 88. Check it out:

Original Fake

Original Fake is one of the most exclusive brands that is building a lot of hype but is hardly ever seen. You can go to their website to learn a tiny bit about them, or read their blog, but most of all they're a big secret. They have a few resellers in the United States but only one real store... which is in Tokyo, Japan. They're inspired by the artist, Kaws, who is popular for the figure above. They also sell toy figures of that thing... in any size ranging from life-size to pocket-size.
I leave you with a song. Rightfully titled because I swear, if you look through some of the pictures of that Kaws character, he's violent.

Summer Madness

Yes I am posting Kool & the Gang. Music doesn't have to be new to be good. I was born after these songs were made but they still inspire my music taste today. This song has to be one of the smoothest songs of all time. If you're ever up late at night and can't sleep, put this one on.
This throwback is a follow up to the above. The Fresh Prince did his own version of the song and DJ Jazzy Jeff did an excellent job remixing the music. This video is awesome. Brings back memories... makes me want to get out of school.
Wiley: Wearing My Rolex

Wiley, a producer and MC from London is the pioneer of the Grime subgenre of UK Garage music. I would describe it as a mix of dance and hip-hop. The beat on this song will make any party go crazy.
His remix to the Rolex song has sparked a new Soulja Boy-like dance phenomenon in the UK. I've seen the dance and it's pretty bad in my opinion. Maybe I'm just ignorant.
